Maths tutor. I graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2021 with a degree in Economics and Mathematics. For the first year after graduating, I worked as a full-time Tutor in Economics at the University of Edinburgh and taught a range of courses that included Statistics and Maths components. I am currently studying for an MSc in Operational Research with Computational Optimisation.

I have been tutoring maths since 2017 and have a range of experience at different levels. I spent the 2021/22 academic working as a full-time economics tutor at the University of Edinburgh, where I taught first- and second-year students. The courses contained a lot of mathematical content and large sections were focused on teaching maths directly, covering topics such as statistics, calculus, and algebra.
I was chosen to run a maths help desk for students finding the maths parts of the course difficult. I used a patient and methodical approach to ensure that each student’s issues and way of thinking was understood and used this to address the problem as clearly and effectively as possible. I received a nomination for Student Tutor of the Year, with the nominating student writing…..
‘He makes the course easier to understand and has a very clear and coherent way of teaching which really helps my anxiety when facing the course.’

SQA National 5 -Mathematics, Applications of Mathematics
SQA Higher - Mathematics
SQA Advanced Higher/ University Level - Maths
I want students to be very active in lessons and talk through their thought process as much as possible. This way, it is easier to understand the student’s way of thinking and to pinpoint issues they might be having with the content, allowing more time to be spent on the student’s areas of need. I work hard to instill confidence in students, as a large part of tackling a maths problem (particularly in an exam) is remaining calm and taking each step one-by-one. I offer tutorials to individuals or to small groups (up to 5) and will be able to cover sections of the coursework, past paper questions, and exam technique for SQA National 5, Higher, and Advanced Higher level. I use a tablet and screenshare a whiteboard for online lessons to ensure they remain as interactive as an in-person lesson.
