Hi, I’m James. I have a First Class Honours degree in Electronic Engineering and a Postgraduate Certificate in Secondary Physics Education with Distinction from Edinburgh Napier University.
I spent over 20 years working as an engineer, including 15 years in the Royal Navy as a Weapons Engineer and later as a Senior Systems Engineer at BAE Systems. Throughout my career, I applied Maths and Physics to solve real engineering problems, giving me real-world experience that I now bring into my tutoring.
After more than 20 years in engineering, I wanted to use my experience to help develop the next generation. Alongside tutoring, I now work at BAE Systems as an Early Careers & Skills Development Coach, supporting apprentices and graduates as they begin their engineering careers.
I help students achieve the best grades they’re capable of in Maths and Physics by helping them develop a genuine understanding of the subject. By identifying gaps in their knowledge and breaking complex concepts down into simple, manageable steps, I help students build confidence and become more independent learners.
At Central Tutors, I support students studying SQA National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher Maths and Physics, tailoring lessons to the course requirements and the needs of each learner.
For me, tutoring isn’t just about helping students pass exams. It’s about giving them the confidence and problem-solving skills they can take into further education, apprenticeships and their future careers.
